Platforms, maintenance walkways and operational facilities are usually outdoors. Rain, leaves, ice and brake dust make surfaces slippery. Anti-slip solutions for railway infrastructure improve grip on walkways, steps and landings used by passengers or maintenance staff.
We offer slip-resistant products for railway facilities: GRP anti-slip sheets, gratings, stair tread covers and anti-slip strips. Please note: approvals and authorisations from the relevant infrastructure manager must be clarified on a project-by-project basis. We support you with product information. Together we will find a solution that suits your site and the requirements.

Typical hazard points at railway facilities
- Platform surfaces and platform edges in wet, leafy or icy conditions
- Maintenance walkways and cess paths along the tracks
- Stairs, ramps and landings at signal boxes and technical buildings
- Gratings and covers over cable ducts and shafts
- Working platforms and pit edges in workshops and depots
- Ladders on signal masts, equipment cabinets and structures
Anti-slip for railway infrastructure: suitable solutions for railway facilities
Slip-resistant sheets for platforms
GRP anti-slip sheets with a gritted surface are screwed or bonded onto existing surfaces. They are suitable for sub-areas such as stair accesses, ramps or crossings. Suitability for platforms used by the public must be agreed with the operator on a case-by-case basis.
GRP anti-slip sheets for track areas
Lightweight, corrosion-resistant materials are needed around the tracks. GRP sheets can be fitted to covers, walkways and gratings. Electrical properties and fire behaviour are often decisive at railway facilities. Versions with corresponding test certificates are available on request.
Non-slip maintenance walkways at railway facilities
For walkways and maintenance routes, slip-resistant gratings made of GRP or steel are an option. Open gratings let water and snow fall through. On closed surfaces, anti-slip strips help as a quick retrofit.
Stairs and steps at operational buildings
Secure outdoor stairs at signal boxes and technical buildings with stair tread covers and stair nosings. In addition, anti-slip handrail protection improves grip.
Marking edges and routes
Visibility matters as well as grip. A slip-resistant floor marking marks walkways, hazardous areas and step edges. It combines slip protection with clear route guidance. This is particularly helpful where staff are on the move in darkness or poor visibility.
Slip protection for railway operational facilities
In workshops and depots, inspection pits, platforms and ladders are typical hazard points. Fixed ladders can be retrofitted with ladder rung covers . For edges and escape routes, we offer photoluminescent escape route marking.
Selection: what matters
Slip resistance
For workplaces, ASR A1.5 (German Technical Rule for Workplaces on floors) and its Annex 2 provide guidance on slip resistance ratings (R9 to R13) and displacement volumes (V4 to V10). Testing is carried out in accordance with DIN EN 16165:2023 (the German edition of European standard EN 16165). For public traffic areas and operator-specific requirements, further requirements may apply. Please clarify these with the infrastructure manager. Our information is intended as guidance and does not replace a case-by-case assessment.
Substrate
Concrete, asphalt, steel plate or grating require different products. Condition, flatness and load-bearing capacity determine whether bonding, screwing or replacement is appropriate. For grating steps and covers, mesh size and supports are also important.
Cleaning
Leaves, snow and brake dust must be removable. Coarse surfaces provide good grip but are harder to clean. Clarify whether clearing or sweeping is done by machine. For winter maintenance, you will find advice on our page on winter safety for stairs and paths.
Fixing
Outdoors and where there is vibration from train traffic, screwed fixing is often more robust. Bonding requires clean, dry surfaces. Any drilling into structures and installations should be agreed with the operator.
How your enquiry works
- Describe the situation: Tell us about the affected surfaces, steps or rungs, the substrate and the ambient conditions. Photos and rough dimensions help with the initial assessment.
- Agree the solution: We suggest suitable products, versions and fixing methods. We clarify any test certificates required at the same time.
- Receive a quote: You receive an individual quote with dimensions, quantities and version. You can then decide at your leisure.
Suitable products
A selection from our range. We will be happy to provide sizes, versions, prices and delivery times on request.

Frequently asked questions about anti-slip for railway infrastructure
May slip-resistant sheets for platforms be installed without approval?
That is decided by the relevant infrastructure manager. Approvals and authorisations must be clarified on a project-by-project basis. We provide you with the product information required for the approval process. Allow sufficient time for this in your project.
What properties do GRP anti-slip sheets for track areas need?
Slip resistance and weather resistance are important and, depending on the location, electrical properties and fire behaviour. Versions with corresponding test certificates are available on request.
How are maintenance walkways at railway facilities made non-slip?
Non-slip maintenance walkways are created by grippy walking surfaces, such as gratings or anti-slip sheets, and by secured steps and edges. Regular cleaning and winter maintenance are still necessary.
Do you also offer made-to-measure slip protection for railway operational facilities?
Yes. For gratings, covers and steps with special dimensions, we produce custom-made products to your specifications.
Are you planning slip protection for platforms, maintenance walkways or operational facilities? Describe your project and the operator’s requirements to us. We will suggest suitable anti-slip solutions for railway infrastructure.
