✂️ Cutting to size: how to fit the mat yourself
Important: we supply the safety mat in standard sizes only – as a 10 m × 120 cm roll and as mats measuring 120 × 250 cm, 120 × 300 cm or 120 × 350 cm. We do not offer cutting to size. You cut the mat to fit your area yourself – with the right tools, this is quick to do.
What you need
A sturdy utility or carpet knife with a hook or trapezoid blade, plus a few spare blades
A steel straightedge or straight batten, tape measure and chalk or a felt-tip pen
A firm cutting surface, e.g. a sheet of wood or chipboard

Cutting step by step
Acclimatise the mat: unroll the roll or mat and leave it to lie flat for about 24 hours, ideally at room temperature (not below approx. 15 °C). Warm material is much easier to cut and lies flat afterwards.
Measure up: measure the area at several points, as walls and landings are rarely perfectly square. Make a cardboard template for irregular shapes.
Mark on the back: place the mat granulate side down on the cutting surface and mark the cutting line along the straightedge. For asymmetrical shapes, lay the template mirror-inverted.
Cut: press the straightedge down firmly and cut in several passes with even pressure rather than forcing the knife through in one go. Always cut away from your body and change the blade in good time – blunt blades tear the backing fabric.
Round the corners: slightly round off exposed outer corners. This stops the corners from curling up and prevents trip edges.
Check the edges: trim any protruding fibres or granulate residue flush with a fresh blade.
Lay and fix: lay several lengths in the same direction, butted tightly together without gaps. Joints can be bonded with PVC cold welding paste. Fix pieces smaller than 3 m² and mats on very smooth substrates to the floor, e.g. with double-sided adhesive tape.
Tips for a clean result
Cut slightly oversize first, then trim to an exact fit – you can always trim more off, but you cannot add material back.
Cover areas wider than 120 cm with several lengths. Where possible, order the material in a single delivery, as slight colour variations between batches can occur due to the production process.

Does the outdoor mat need to be fixed down?
Yes – on smooth substrates or for small areas, fixing is advisable, for example with special double-sided adhesive tape. This stops the mat from shifting and creating a trip hazard.
Does the mat help in ice and snow too?
Partly – the open structure lets water drain away and reduces slipperiness, but it is no substitute for winter maintenance. The mat should not be laid on existing black ice, and gritting and snow clearing are still required.
