Looking for an effective way to prevent slip accidents, especially on stairs? Self-adhesive anti-slip tape provides durable slip protection – quickly and easily.
Anti-slip tape is a self-adhesive tape with a gritted or textured surface that makes stairs, ramps, decks and walkways slip-resistant in minutes – a versatile, cost-effective solution for industrial, commercial, marine and outdoor areas that delivers optimum slip resistance. Anti-slip and non-slip tapes come in many different versions to meet different requirements.
We supply the following types of self-adhesive anti-slip tape:
1. Standard self-adhesive grip tape
- Coated with aluminium oxide or silicon carbide grit
- Ideal for indoor and outdoor areas
- Water- and oil-resistant
2. Coarse & extra-coarse grip tape
- Higher slip resistance thanks to a coarser grit
- Suitable for industrial areas, workshops, construction sites, construction vehicles and military use

3. Photoluminescent (glow-in-the-dark) non-slip tape
- Stores light energy and glows in the dark
- Greater safety in emergencies
4. Reflective non-slip tape
- Combines slip resistance with light reflection
- Ideal for stairs, ramps and hazard zones
5. Clear and coloured tapes, e.g. with black and yellow hazard stripes
- For discreet or aesthetic applications
- Coloured versions for marking safety areas
6. Chemical-resistant tape
- Specifically for environments with aggressive chemicals
7. Slip-resistant tape for barefoot areas
- Comfortable, rubber-like surface for wet areas (swimming pools, showers, yachts)
8. Waterproof non-slip tape for outdoor use
- Resistant to rain, salt water, UV radiation and temperature fluctuations.
- Also suitable for stairs
- Developed for ships, decks and other areas with high humidity
The standard width is 50 mm, but 25 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm widths are also available, as are special shapes and custom widths. Some tapes can also be custom-printed. Depending on the type of tape, the following colours are available: black, red, orange, yellow, fluorescent yellow, green, blue, beige, brown, grey, clear, white, black/yellow, red/white and camouflage (beige/green/black/brown). Special colours are available for larger order quantities.

“The surfaces of treads must be slip-resistant. Slip risk is assessed and classified in accordance with the rule ‘Floors in workrooms and work areas with a slip hazard’ (BGR/GUV-R 181). Inside buildings, the tread surface should have slip resistance of at least rating R 9. In areas where slippery substances can be expected as a result of the work (e.g. oil, grease, water, dust, waste), higher ratings (R 10 to R 13) are required, depending on the type and quantity of the substance. On external stairs, additional measures may be needed to protect against weather-related slipperiness (e.g. rain, leaves, ice and snow), such as a sufficiently large canopy or screening.”

A popular choice in this area is self-adhesive Safety Grip tape. It is hard-wearing, easy to apply and provides a reliable non-slip surface – ideal for areas with high moisture, such as bathrooms or industrial working environments. Unlike abrasive materials, non-abrasive grip tape is gentler on skin and bare feet, so it is also suitable where skin contact is likely or where strict hygiene rules apply.
Where lighting is limited or during power cuts, photoluminescent tape with a non-slip finish can improve safety. These tapes absorb light and release it in the dark, making obstacles and escape routes much more visible.

As well as preventing slips, some tapes also double as marking tape. They can be used, for example, to mark out work areas or hazards, improving visibility and preventing accidents.
A robust alternative to tape on stair treads or decks, particularly outdoors, is anti-slip strips.
Waterproof and chemical-resistant anti-slip tape for indoor and outdoor use
There are also special outdoor non-slip tapes that perform several functions – for example, providing a non-slip surface while also marking out work areas or objects. Other waterproof tapes are specifically salt-resistant (e.g. for shipping, marine or offshore use).

These tapes are extremely water-resistant because the adhesive is not water-based and therefore does not break down in water. When applied correctly (follow the instructions!), the non-slip top surface is impermeable to water. This makes them ideal for boats, showers, marine applications and similar uses.
Other tapes are designed specifically for particularly harsh outdoor conditions with snow and ice or to be chemical-resistant. Here, the adhesive resin is formulated to withstand high concentrations of chemicals over the long term. (If required, we recommend carrying out a resistance test with a free sample.)

Whether in industry, the trades or safety-critical environments – this tape ensures a stable, safe working environment.
Anti-slip tape for outdoor stairs
Anti-slip tape for outdoor stairs is specially developed to improve safety on external steps. It is designed to withstand all kinds of weather and provides a non-slip surface even in wet, icy or damp conditions.
Outdoor grip tapes are typically made of particularly hard-wearing, UV-resistant materials that are not degraded by sunlight or other environmental factors. They also often have a robust surface texture or special coatings for improved grip, even in wet weather or snow.
Anti-slip handrails for stairs
Handrails play a crucial role in the safety and wellbeing of employees and visitors in the workplace.
When choosing tape for outdoor stairs, pay attention to the quality and durability of the product to ensure long-term effectiveness and safety. Installation should also follow the manufacturer’s instructions to ensure optimum adhesion and performance.
If required, we can also supply self-adhesive floor signs reminding people to use the handrail.

Option 1: Self-adhesive non-slip handrail tape for stairs
Our self-adhesive handrail tape is non-abrasive, so it is pleasant to touch. It is also easy to clean.
The self-adhesive handrail grip tape can be applied to both external and internal handrails straight away. Because the material does not absorb water, the surface does not freeze, sparing users any discomfort. Before applying the handrail tape, make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of contaminants.

Option 2: Specially shaped grab handles and safety rails with a non-slip grip
- The twisted design of our grip provides a more secure, firm hold, even in the toughest conditions (e.g. offshore, in hospitals and in care homes).
- The safety grips offer a secure, stable hold wherever people may need support – even with oily hands!
- Grab handles and safety rails can make it easier for people with reduced mobility to access areas that would otherwise be difficult or impossible for them to reach.
- They are made from high-quality materials that make them durable and corrosion-resistant.
- We offer bespoke options to make sure our solutions fit seamlessly into your space.
- They are easy to install and maintain, and built to last.

All in all, anti-slip tape is a practical and effective way to improve safety in many different environments and minimise the risk of slips.

FAQs about anti-slip tape
How long does anti-slip tape last?
It typically lasts as long as foot and vehicle traffic, cleaning and the weather allow – there is no fixed lifespan. What matters most is a clean, dry, grease-free substrate and firmly pressed-down edges. Heavily worn sections can be replaced individually.
Which tape is best for outdoor stairs?
For outdoor stairs, choose weather- and UV-resistant tapes – or coarse-grit versions where there is heavy soiling. In wet and icy conditions, also check canopies, drainage and winter gritting.
Can non-slip tape be applied to gratings or chequer plate?
Usually not across its full area – on heavily textured or perforated surfaces, tape often does not bond properly. In these cases GRP anti-slip sheets, stair nosings or a coating are usually the better choice.
Is there tape for chemical or salt-water environments?
Yes – there are versions specifically for chemical and marine environments. We can provide test evidence of resistance on request. A trial with a sample under your own conditions is also advisable.
